The ocean is the most amazing display venue a creative person could imagine. Jason deCaires Taylor, a well-known underwater sculptor, said these. Although the artist has sculptures all over the world, you can be sure that his contribution to the already stunning seas of Grenada is unlike anything else you’ll discover in the Caribbean. The first underwater sculpture park in the world, the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park is home to numerous of the artist’s works. It is situated off Grenada’s west coast.
While many people advise scuba diving as the best way to observe the structures because you can remain underwater longer, explore, and take as many photos as you like, you can visit the park by snorkeling or scuba diving. Some of the sculptures are only six feet below the surface and are located between three and five meters underwater.
When you dive to visit the sculptures in Grenada’s underwater park, you can be tempted to believe that art has been around for a very long period based on what you see and the ambiance. Not at all, as the park was built for the first time in 2006. Some of the sculptures, which are made of steel and concrete, weigh up to 15 tons. On the seafloor’s bottom, fasteners keep them in place. There are 75 sculptures in total, and they draw divers of all kinds as well as glass bottom boat trips, which also offer good views because some of the sculptures are close to the surface.
